First edition of the biennial Fondazione Mangiarotti award


An awarding ceremony that took place on December 14th concluded the first edition of the biennial “Innovative building systems” award named after Angelo Mangiarotti. The event was organized in order to promote technological innovation in the field of architecture by the Polytechnic University of Milan and the Mangiarotti Foundation, with the participation of METRA. The contest was open to both Italian and foreign architecture and engineering master’s degree theses, as well as projects developed in collaboration with leading production companies. Among others, submissions included Corvino+Multari’s Pirelli building renovation project (developed with the participation of METRA), Cino Zucchi Architetti, Atelier2 and Polis Engineering. Mauricio Cardenas was proclaimed as winner by a jury composed of Andrea Campioli, Ingrid Paoletti and Beppe Finessi (Polytechnic University of Milan) and Giuseppe De Giovanni (University of Palermo), thanks to his “Oasis Micro climatic pavilion: integration of a natural material (bamboo) to a steel and glass construction system”. As far as the student’s section is concerned, the following theses were proclaimed equal winners: “Redevelopment project of the concrete factory of San Vincente, Alicante”, UA – Universidad de Alicante; Sebastiano Bonasoro, “Sunsheat – system components and photovoltaic structure casings”, University of Palermo.
